What is Location History?

Location History keeps a searchable history of the folders you open in Windows Explorer (and, opt-in, Q-Dir), so you can find and re-visit them later. It is not GPS or geographic location tracking: "location" means folder paths, and all data stays on your PC.

Features:

  • History: records the folders open in Explorer each time you run a capture.
  • Places: pin folders you want to keep easy access to, independent of recent history.
  • Tree view: browse recorded folders in a hierarchical view.
  • Search: filter history and places by path or name.
  • Undo / Redo for pin/unpin and other list operations.
  • Bulk operations: multi-select pin/unpin and cleanup.

Capture is an explicit step, not a background service: click Capture in the GUI to record the folders currently open. An optional tray helper can capture Explorer folders automatically on a timer (off until you start it). Q-Dir capture is opt-in.

The GUI is the main way to use it; a CLI is included for diagnostics and maintenance.

Portable: extract the zip and run, no installer and no admin rights. Local-only, no network use. Tested on a limited set of Windows environments. Open source (MIT).
