Local Waifu information
What is Local Waifu?
Local Waifu is a native macOS application for creating and talking to AI companions that run entirely on your own hardware. Unlike cloud-based companion apps, all conversations, memories, and character data stay on your Mac — nothing is sent to external servers. The app uses Ollama to run language models locally, with a built-in model selection guide that recommends models based on your Mac's RAM. For users who want access to larger models, an optional bring-your-own-key (BYOK) mode lets you connect your own API keys as a fallback. The core of Local Waifu is its long-term memory system. Conversations are stored in a local SQLite database with vector embeddings and a knowledge graph, so your companion remembers facts, preferences, and past conversations across sessions — weeks or months later, not just within a single chat. Key features:
Runs 100% on-device via Ollama — works fully offline Long-term memory with embeddings and a knowledge graph Full character customization: personality, appearance, conversation style RAM-based model recommendations for Apple Silicon Macs Optional BYOK mode for cloud models if you choose No account required, no telemetry, no data collection One-time purchase, no subscription, 30-day refund policy
Local Waifu is built for people who want an AI companion without handing their most personal conversations to a third party, and without renting access through a monthly subscription. You buy it once, you own it, and everything stays on your machine.
