What is Linux SoundBoard?

Linux Soundboard is a native Linux alternative to Soundpad for playing audio clips through a virtual microphone. It creates a PipeWire input device that can be selected in Discord, OBS, Zoom, games, voice chats, and other recording applications.

The application can mix sound effects with your real microphone, allowing other users to hear both your voice and the selected audio clips through a single input device. Independent volume controls are available for local playback and virtual microphone output.

Sounds can be organized into tabs, imported from individual files or synchronized folders, searched in real time, and assigned global keyboard shortcuts. Global hotkeys work on both Wayland and X11. Playback features include pause, seeking, looping, automatic continuation, and LUFS loudness normalization to keep clips at a consistent volume.

Linux Soundboard supports common audio formats including MP3, FLAC, AAC, M4A, Ogg Vorbis, and Opus. Its background audio engine keeps the virtual microphone and microphone passthrough active even when the main interface is closed.

The application is built natively with Rust, GTK4, Libadwaita, and PipeWire rather than Electron or a browser-based interface. Packages are available for Arch-based distributions, Debian and Ubuntu, Fedora, and other Linux distributions through AppImage and release archives.

Linux Soundboard is source-available under the PolyForm Noncommercial License. Noncommercial use and redistribution are allowed under the license terms, while commercial use requires separate permission.
