What is LayoutKeeper?

LayoutKeeper is a free, open source menu bar app for macOS. It remembers where each window sits on your external monitor (position, size and Mission Control Space) and puts everything back when that monitor is plugged in again, either after asking you or automatically.

It keeps a separate layout for each monitor, or one shared layout if you use different monitors at home and at work. It can add missing Spaces, shows a preview before restoring, and every restore can be undone. It also maps the brightness and volume keys to the screen under your mouse, using hardware DDC on Apple Silicon.

Requires macOS 14 or later. Restoring windows to their original Space needs macOS 26 or later. Supports one external monitor at a time.
