What is Keyboard Sounds?
Keyboard Sounds is a free, cross-platform application that transforms any standard keyboard into a mechanical keyboard experience through realistic audio feedback. With 16 built-in audio profiles for keyboards and one for mice, the application brings the satisfying click and clack of mechanical switches to any typing setup. Users can create and customize their own sound profiles using the built-in editor, which supports both WAV and MP3 audio files, allowing for endless personalization possibilities. The application is available as a desktop application for Windows and Linux, while a command-line interface extends support to macOS and other Python-compatible platforms.
Beyond basic sound playback, Keyboard Sounds offers advanced features designed for power users and content creators. Application rules enable fine-grained control over when and where sounds play, allowing users to enable audio only in specific applications like text editors or terminals while keeping it disabled elsewhere. The randomized pitch shift feature adds natural variation to each keystroke, preventing repetitive audio fatigue. For streamers and content creators, the application includes seamless OBS integration through an optional daemon window, allowing keyboard sounds to be captured as an isolated audio source.
