the project was once arguably the best codec package, however, it suggests installing "infatica," which has no relation to playing multimedia files.

What is K-Lite Codec Pack?
K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs, DirectShow filters and tools. Codecs and DirectShow filters are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video formats. The K-Lite Codec Pack is designed as a user-friendly solution for playing all your movie files. With the K-Lite Codec Pack you should be able to play all the popular audio and video formats and even some rare formats.

Been using it since forever. It comes with MPC-HC (Media Player Classic - Home Cinema) and in recently (a year or so?) it has added the Black Edition MPC, that is the awesome and sleek Dark Themed MPC, for people that do not want anymore to remember the good old days on Windows 98/XP.
I suggest for people to use the Standard version as it comes with everything you will ever need to watch your video files ever. If you want to have insane video quality and have the hardware to back it up, then go for the *Full version, which comes with MadVR too =D In general, Standard should be good enough for most of the people, so make sure to read on their site what more the larger versions offer, to see if it actually is something you want.
This has been an irreplaceable codec pack for me. Bless the team that created and still update it and press F for Kazaa Lite for apparently inspiring them to start out the project XD
Be careful when installing. After component selection and configuration, you are offered third party software you do not want.

A solid choice for playing all your audio and movie files.
The Kazaa filesharing app is long gone, but the K-Lite codec pack lives on. Codec packs were an essential element of filesharing in the old days. While you can get by with VLC now, it is still worth getting the K-Lite codec pack. Here are some reasons why:
1 - It comes with the excellent MPC-HC (which receives updates today, in spite of reports to the contrary).
2 - More importantly, the Mega Codec pack comes with MADVR, which can help you get the best possible video quality from MPC-HC. Highly recommended!
i really love the mega codec pack and it really comes in handy with the thumbnails. i recommend this!
This helped me to view thumbnails of many .mkv format video files and had helped to play some of the rare audio and video formats which was unable to be played even on VLC
