INCI Beauty is an application that allows you to analyse the composition of cosmetic products: simply scan the barcode of a product in a shop or at home to obtain information on the ingredients it contains.
Consumers have become increasingly demanding when it comes to cosmetics. Beyond the well-being that these products can provide, they want to be sure that these products will not pose a problem for their health, that of their children and for the nature that surrounds them. The INCI Beauty app was launched in late 2017 in a climate where:
- The media and blogs are surfing on a permanent psychosis, and relaying ever more alarming information about ingredients
- Scientists are confronted with parameters that are almost impossible to resolve and find it difficult to conclude that a particular ingredient is completely harmless unscrupulous industrialists, who generate ever greater profits, do not hesitate to make people believe in naturalness (Greenwashing) when there is none.
To do so, the app as a system of colour flowers. This colour system reveals the varying penalties assigned to ingredients, and used in the calculation of product scores. An ingredient may have different flowers, and therefore different penalties depending on its use: the risk to the consumer may be different depending, for example, on whether the ingredient is present in a spray product or not. The penalty system is constantly evolving, and ingredients may change from one colour to another depending on updated knowledge, new scientific information or regulatory developments. To help you find your way around, the application displays the following 4 colours of flowers:
- Green: a risk-free ingredient - No penalty
- Yellow: a regulated ingredient / rather irritating / allergenic - Low penalty
- Orange: an ingredient that is petrochemical and/or does not deserve a red - medium penalty
- Red: a controversial or potentially risky ingredient - High penalty
