Copy feature is totally stupid

iFunbox does a really bad job of copying big files from your iPhone onto your computer. It supports drag-and-drop, but not very well: when you drag and drop, the file that you dropped remains awkwardly in the foreground, even after you let go of it. It doesn't go away until the copy is completed. Additionally, iFunbox copies files from your iPhone into a temporary files folder, and then into your intended destination. This method is really unreliable. Sometimes, your copy gets stuck in the temp files folder, and never reaches your destination at all. That gets really confusing. Plus, if you're copying really big items such as movies, and you have iFunbox in your Dropbox (it is a portable app, after all), your Dropbox space gets screwed because the copy has to go into the temp files folder in your Dropbox first.

Apple x Apple? More complicated! o.O

I thought that I exit Windows and go to the Mac OS would be easier to communicate the iPhone. But from what I saw is much more complicated. On Windows I went to the music by Media Monkey and the rest used the iFunBox. Now on Mac OS, I still have not found any solution outside of iTunes that satisfied me.

i-FunBox is the best browser for a Jailbroken iPhone. I went through Sharepod, iPhoneBrowser, iPhoneExplorer and a few others. It's super easy to use, the interface doesn't suck, the program doesn't crash and freeze like many of the others, and most importantly, it allows you to do more than just music and pictures. Access the way it should be, that's what i-Funbox is!

I second you opinion. All 3 are great and free but so far only iFunBox can backup/restore apps easily. I'd rank them as:

  1. iFunBox (easy and allows backup/restore of apps)
  2. iPhoneExplorer (allwos access to the phisical root and to 3rd party 'Apps' directory
  3. iPhoneBrowser (my 1st and trustful)

@oayz: I don't really see what's so great about iPhone Explorer. All three of those apps allow access to the root of your iPhone, and iFunbox also has shortcuts to the Cydia and App Store apps folders. Despite all of iFunbox's shortcomings (namely the extreme crappiness of its copy feature), it's still my preferred iPhone file browser. I only use iPhone Explorer because it's the sole iPhone root file browser available on Mac OS X.

@OmgItsTheSmartGuy - you're right, thanks for correction. I didn't recognize that "Raw File System" on i-FunBox is actually a "root". OK, so yes i-FunBox is the preferred apps by wide margin. One negative thing - it seems it doesn't have access to installed application list/urls ("/apps" under iPhoneExplorer - not available on iPhoneBrowser). Another thing which I'd love to have - music/video/photo copy to/from PC (neither of listed apps can do it - you need something like ImTOO iPhone Transfer for that).

Anyway - great piece of software and freeware as well!

@oayz: I've used iFunbox to copy my iPod music to my computer before, with the "Backup Music" section. I'm relatively sure that you can copy photos to your PC, too. I've never had to use iPhone transfer apps before, since I can do it all through iFunbox.

I'm not sure which app directory you're referring to, but App Store apps are located in /var/mobile/Applications of the root, while Cydia and pre-installed apps are located in /var/stash/Applications.

@OmgItsTheSmartGuy - I don't see any "Backup Music" section under iFunbox. Ringtones and iBooks are there but not Music. There is "Recover Music and Video" but it's empty. All my MP3s are under "//var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control/Music" but file names are encrypted using 4 char format. Yes I can copy/backup them to PC but I can not ADD new files.

Regarding "/apps" - it's not AppStore or Cydia apps, it's something else visible only with iPhoneExplorer. It looks like URL. This is one of the entrees - "com.lexcycle.stanza". Have no idea what it is for :-(

Adding MP3s? That's an interesting feature. :P I just use iTunes.

The /Apps folder in iPhoneExplorer that you're talking about seems to contains App Store apps. Stanza is an App Store app by Lexcycle.

iTunes? Or man why would we need this monster when we have iFunBox? :-)

Regarding /Apps - it's a list of "inverted" URLs for AppStore apps. Actual apps are under "\User applications". Still curious what are they for, why inverted and why only iPhoneExplorer shows them.

One interesting advantage that i-Funbox has over other iPhone file browsers is its multiple default bookmarks. If your device is jailbroken with certain apps, it includes bookmarks to the Installous installation folder, the Cydia installation folder, Safari downloads, and even separate shortcuts to App Store and Cydia app folders.
