I wanted one place to capture chords, melody, and lyrics together. Hookpad tries to do that but the workflow is clunky and it wants me to arrange a full song inside the app, which isn't where arrangement happens, that's my DAW's job. Song Cage's DAW-style timeline is what I was actually looking for: get the idea down fast, come back and flesh it out later. I can start from anywhere, chords, melody, or lyrics, whatever hits first, and build from there. The chord suggestions are context-aware, it reads what's around the cursor and suggests chords that actually fit, and it teaches you why each one works (which melody notes are chord tones, how it voice-leads, what role it plays in the key). The lyric workspace has a rhyme finder, slant rhymes, and synonyms, plus an Explore tab that chains related words and surfaces unexpected pairings when I'm stuck on a line. I can also record audio straight into the section I'm on so a hummed melody doesn't vanish. And there's the modulation panel that always shows me the way back home if I've drifted too far out of key with suggestions that Hookpad has no equivalent for.
