What is Home Rec?
Home Rec is a lightweight macOS menu bar app that captures system audio output and saves it as high-quality WAV files (48kHz/16-bit stereo). Built with SwiftUI and Apple's ScreenCaptureKit framework, it provides a simple one-click recording experience without requiring virtual audio drivers like BlackHole or Loopback, and without the complexity of configuring aggregate devices in Audio MIDI Setup.
The app lives in your menu bar for quick access and displays a real-time waveform visualization while recording. Files are automatically saved with timestamp-based names. It's designed to do one thing well — capture system audio with zero configuration.
Home Rec is free, open source (Apache 2.0), and has no dependencies beyond Apple's native frameworks.
