Happy Photon is an open-source photo workflow built around three decisions: which photographs to keep, what each keeper should look like, and what output you need. It opens a folder of RAW or JPEG files in place, with no import step and no catalog to build first, so a full memory card is browsable at once. Cull with flags, ratings, labels and filters, compare two to four frames side by side, and treat RAW+JPEG pairs as one capture.
If you are leaving Lightroom Classic, Happy Photon reads your catalog and brings over ratings, flags, labels and crops in seconds, without writing to the catalog or to your originals. XMP sidecars carry assessments back out to the tools you still use.
Develop uses a 16-bit linear Rec.2020 working space with AgX tone rendering, DCP camera profiles, lens corrections from embedded data or Lensfun, white balance, tone curves, an HSL mixer, local masks (linear, radial, brush), heal and clone, crop with auto straighten, perspective correction, sharpening, noise reduction, vignette and grain. Sync settings across a shoot, use presets, and keep up to eight versions of each photo. Export to JPEG, PNG, WebP or 16-bit TIFF in sRGB or Display P3.
Everything is local: no account, no subscription, no cloud library, no telemetry. Edits are non-destructive and the originals are never touched. Cloud-only files from OneDrive and similar are browsed without being downloaded.
Happy Photon is pre-1.0. Camera and RAW support varies by platform and capture mode; check the cameras that matter to you and keep backups. Windows x64 (Microsoft Store or ZIP), macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon (signed and notarized), Linux x64 (AppImage or archive). GPL-3.0-or-later.
