What is Gravity: Japanese Immersion?

Gravity is a Japanese immersion app for iPhone, iPad and Android. It gives you a hand-picked library of real Japanese videos (anime clips, YouTube vlogs, podcasts and music), each levelled from Pre-JLPT to N1, so you can find something you mostly understand and press play.

Every transcript is checked before a video goes live and timed to each word, with furigana or romaji, an English translation of each line, and each word's meaning. Tap a word to see what it means in that sentence, or ask Aio, the app's axolotl, to explain it in context. Save it and it becomes a flashcard that replays the clip you heard it in, scheduled with FSRS spaced repetition.

Moments is a feed of short clips you can scroll anywhere, tapping and saving words as you go. Songs have a karaoke mode, and there's 0.5x playback and a shadowing recorder for speaking practice.

Gravity is Japanese-only and doesn't teach grammar from zero, so it pairs well with a grammar guide. $14.99/month or $69.99/year in the US, with a 7-day free trial. No ads.
