With the proper addons, it becomes a physics and electronics simulator (Wiremod), CAD tool (Precision tools and SProps), animator (the numerous ragdoll/camera addons available), AI development framework (NextBot), and art tool.
Good awesome if you a thinker and maker you probly love this game.
Being a fan of Valve's Source Engine and it's once revolutionary physics engine I just had to buy Garry's Mod.
Since then the game has only gotten better and received many user-made content (One of the biggest content-website 'garrysmod.org' counts ~38.000 items) from map and character skins over the Wiremod addon which allows you to build complex constructs like CPUs to whole new gamemodes like Roleplaying, Survival or Parkour. Using the LUA script engine, GMod is easily extendable.
My Garry's Mod playing time counts 1075 hours. If you decide to buy this, I hope you'll have as much fun with it as I have.
Garry's Mod 13 is great, there is a lot of content. But, there just doesn't seem to be as much content for it as previous versions of Garry's Mod. But older versions aren't available. I could create stuff on my own I suppose. But tutorials are lacking, or too old to matter for this version, and folks are very secretive about sharing how to build, and use of scripts etc. At least this is what I've found in the short time I've had it. Downloaded it from Steam for $10. This is my first go at it. I've not experienced previous versions. But I've done my share of investigation before purchasing this product. Older versions seem to have vast amounts of content compared to this one. I hope more content is coming for it. It would be a shame if there wasn't. This is my opinion of Garry's Mod.
