What is Github Store?
Github Store is a Kotlin Multiplatform app for Android and Desktop that turns GitHub releases into an app-store-like interface. It only shows repositories with installable assets like APK, EXE, DMG, and more, identifies your operating system, and provides the right installer. The app ensures installations are from the latest release and highlights the changelog. It also displays a detailed screen with statistics, README, and developer information.
The app has several features such as intelligent discovery with sections for "Popular", "Recently Updated", and "New" projects. It uses platform-aware topic scoring to show relevant apps first and fetches the latest release for each repository. It offers a single "Install latest" action and a list of all installers for that release.
The details screen shows the app name, version, and an "Install latest" button. It also displays stars, forks, open issues, README content, and the latest release notes with markdown formatting. It provides a list of installers with platform labels and file sizes. The user experience is cross-platform, with Android handling APK downloads and Desktop downloading to a chosen location and opening the file. The app supports GitHub login and is rate-limit friendly, allowing users to sign in with GitHub to use their own 5,000 requests per hour quota.
