It could have a better packaging for MacOS (I had to create my .app bundle and set GTK_THEME=Adwaita:dark environment variable to make it dark. But other than that it is my go-to image viewer for both Linux and MacOS. It has all the features I need for previewing images in a directory.

Goods:

  • doesn't look like modern ugly GTK3 applications
  • picture management
  • accepts EXIF, allows to preview the page output exactly

Bads:

  • uses only outdated LPR protocol. You basically have very primitive page sizes, driver is not asked for which pages it supports. And no further printing options, except DPI setting - which is actually useless.
  • does not print with HP N911a, it just hangs. Printer lights up but nothing on display, the print queque is empty, trying to reprint results in SEGPIPE.

Do not recommend, if you are for printing.

What is Geeqie Image Viewer?

Geeqie is a lightweight Gtk+ based image viewer for Unix like operating systems. It was forked from GQview. The development is focused on features for photo collection maintenance: raw format, Exif/IPTC/XMP metadata and integration with programs like UFraw, ImageMagick, Gimp, gPhoto or ExifTool.
