What is GDI?
GDI++.dll is a replacement for the Windows default font rasterizer, which gives you a better font-smoothing capability, just like Mac OS X.

Excellent piece of kit. Why this is largely unknown is beyond me.
Another wonderful software that improves the look of your fonts on screen (forget ClearType). Why can't Microsoft do this?
Don't get scared by the Japanese language, there are earlier versions in English that include the newer FreeType 2 font engine (freetype.dll), and SSE-optimized executable & DLL (gdi++_sse.exe, gdi++_sse.dll -- you need to remove the "_sse" part).
The UI part is located in the system tray (gditray.exe), and allows you to select different configuration files (GDI++\ini*.ini).
