What is Folder Metadata (FolderMeta)?

FolderMeta is a software application that allows users to assign properties to folders, visible in a customizable table view in Windows Explorer. Users can assign and edit folder properties directly through the Explorer context menu. FolderMeta also lets users assign Nicknames to objects, providing an alternative name for a file or folder in Explorer without changing its actual name.

FolderMeta uses the native capabilities of the Windows operating system through the Desktop.ini file and supports Windows Vista/7/8/8.1/10/11 and corresponding server versions. This allows easy transfer of folders and files between Windows-supported file systems, preserving assigned properties. The software also has limited support for Windows 2000/XP and corresponding server versions through alternate data streams in NTFS. Thus, management for folders in legacy operating systems available via Summary tab of the Properties dialog, but Nicknames are stored/cached in the Registry with the possibility of cache preemption with time.
