Flint (Windows) information
What is Flint (Windows)?
Flint is a Windows-native bootable USB and disk image writer designed for creating reliable bootable media from ISO and DD images.
Flash operating system images and other disk images directly to removable drives through a simple, focused desktop interface. After writing, Flint performs a complete read-back verification of the target drive, comparing the written data byte-for-byte using SHA-256 hashing. If verification fails, Flint reports the exact mismatches detected instead of simply indicating that the operation failed.
Flint is distributed as a portable Windows executable with no installer required and is open source under the MIT license. It includes no telemetry and is designed to keep the imaging process straightforward while providing stronger post-write verification than a basic “write completed” confirmation.
Features:
- Write ISO and DD disk images to USB drives
- Full-drive read-back verification after writing
- Byte-for-byte data comparison
- SHA-256 based verification
- Exact mismatch reporting
- Portable Windows application — no installation required
- Open source and MIT licensed
- No telemetry
Flint is built for users who want a straightforward Windows-native alternative for creating bootable USB media while having confidence that the data written to the drive matches the source image.
