What is Finderlock?
Finderlock is a macOS utility that lets you lock files and folders directly in Finder using AES-256 encryption. Authentication is handled with Touch ID or a master password, and all encryption happens locally on your Mac—nothing is uploaded. Finderlock relies on Apple’s own encrypted disk-image format (sparse bundles) and system services like Keychain and the Secure Enclave for biometrics—so your files stay on-device and compatible with macOS tooling.
Key features:
- Native Finder integration: lock/unlock from the right-click menu; no separate workflow.
- Touch ID & password: biometric unlock on supported Macs or use a master password.
- Auto-lock controls: fixed 30-minute timer on Free; custom timers and per-folder settings on Basic; smart rules (on sleep, logout, or idle) on Pro.
- Menu bar dashboard: quick overview and access to your protected items.
- Local-only encryption: uses macOS encrypted disk-image “sparse bundle” containers (AES-256); works offline except for license/updates.
- Optional extras (Pro): bulk operations and a secure file shredder.
Licenses are one-time purchases that cover multiple Macs and include a year of updates, with a free version available for basic protection.
