What is FFDShow?
FFDShow is a DirectShow decoding filter for decompressing DivX, XviD, H.264, FLV1, WMV, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2, MPEG-4 movies. It uses libavcodec from ffmpeg project for video decompression, postprocessing code from mplayer to enhance visual quality of low bitrate movies, and is based on original DirectShow filter from XviD, which is GPLed educational implementation of MPEG4 encoder.
The main developer was Milan Cutka. When he stopped updating the project in 2006, new maintainers opened the ffdshow-tryouts as a fork, where bugfixes, stability fixes, new features, and codec updates continue.

Comments and Reviews
I use the latest build of ffdshow tryouts ( see http://xhmikosr.1f0.de ) with MPC-HC, and I just love it. 1080p-stuff looks much better than with VLC.
Recommendable!
