What is ExitEcho?

ExitEcho is a free, open-source Windows utility that helps you find processes that remain running after an application's window has closed.

It monitors desktop applications and notifies you when related processes are still active. You can inspect their names, process IDs (PIDs), and memory usage before deciding what to do.

Key features:

  • Detects potentially leftover processes after applications close.
  • Shows process names, PIDs, and RAM usage.
  • Allows manual termination with confirmation.
  • Supports ignoring individual processes or entire applications.
  • Keeps a local history of detected events.
  • Runs in the system tray with pause and resume controls.
  • Offers six interface themes, including OLED Black, and 27 UI languages.

ExitEcho is written in C# using WPF and .NET 10. It is portable, licensed under MIT, and does not require an account or collect telemetry.

The application has been tested on Windows 11 x64. Windows 10 compatibility has not been verified. Current executables are unsigned.

Source code, downloads, screenshots, and a demonstration video are available on GitHub.
