What is Etherlords?

Etherlords is a series of turn-based strategy games developed by Nival Interactive. The action takes place in a fantasy universe divided into several worlds, each with its unique race, magic, and creatures. The player assumes the role of a powerful Ether Lord capable of traveling between worlds and summoning creatures using magical cards.

The gameplay of Etherlords combines elements of role-playing games, collectible card games (CCGs), and tactical battles on hexagonal grids. As the player progresses through the game, they develop their hero, collect a deck of summonable creatures, artifacts, and spells. Battles take place in a turn-based mode, where it is important to skillfully use the abilities and positioning of units.

The series includes two main games:

Etherlords (2001) - the first installment that laid the foundation for the game mechanics and setting.

Etherlords II (2003) - a sequel with improved graphics, new races, and a more elaborate storyline. Multiplayer and a card editor were added.

Etherlords offers engaging gameplay at the intersection of genres, a colorful fantasy universe, and a vast array of tactics through card combinations. It is one of the most unusual and distinctive series of strategy games from the early 2000s that can still be of interest to fans of the genre today.
