What is Ether Echo?

Ether Echo teaches a language through listening first. Lessons are built from whole sentences you hear spoken, and each new sentence introduces exactly one word you don't know yet. Reviews are scheduled with FSRS, the algorithm recent versions of Anki use, so each word comes back just before you would forget it.

Once you know about thirty words, a real-time voice tutor starts talking with you using only words you already know, so you speak from the first days instead of typing.

Seven languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and Russian. Japanese, Mandarin and Russian show the original script (kanji and kana, Chinese characters, Cyrillic) above a reading you can pronounce (romaji, pinyin with tones, Russian with stress marks). A placement test at the start skips what you already know. The interface is available in the same seven languages.

Courses, reviews and exercises are free. The subscription only pays for tutor minutes, from 50 to 600 per month, with 30 free minutes at sign-up and no card required. Available on iPhone, Android and the web.
