What is Emerge Desktop?
Emerge Desktop is a replacement Windows "shell" (the desktop environment normally provided by Windows Explorer) for Windows 2000 and above. In order to replace Windows Explorer as a shell, it provides a system tray (the area that collects the icons collected at the lower right corner in Explorer), called emergeTray. It will also provide access to the users programs (normally accessed with the Windows "start" button) via a right-click on the desktop, via emergeCore.

... open source Explorer replacements a sophisticated user can really work with. The configuration dialogs are a bit fiddly, especially the menu editor. And I could never imagine why anyone should need a transparent menu. But after all the app has indeed all what's needed (and not more). And it's 64bit!
I've been using this as a shell replacement, with explorer++ as my file manager and I have to say it is amazing! I tried all of the different shell replacements, and others are good, but this has FULL 64 bit support, and it's a hell of a lot easier to set up and use.
