Using the Quest in standalone is not possible with Google Earth VR. Here comes EarthQuest into play: EarthQuest is a standalone Quest app, allowing a similar experience as with Google Earth VR.
In my opinion, EarthQuest is even better in many ways. It is standalone, it has higher resolution, the flying is very nice to use. It is not as polished as GEarth ... But the developer is very active and tries to fulfill request by users on his discord.
I purchased the game while it was still 5-6$ and don't regret it. I have also purchased the additional In-App-Purchase for the AI voice chat (again 5-6$). Even if I rarely use the AI (navigating, teleporting, asking for info about the location), I don't regret buying it. At that time $12 was very well invested in a young and motivated developer.
The best thing about this app: You can add your own Google Cloud API for map data. The dev provides a public API, but it can happen to be limited due to usage. Personal API is free below $200 per month. I rarly reach 30$. So even if the developer quits the app, it still can be used.
