What is Drafft?
Drafft aims to reduce file clutter and provide a centralized hub for all the various aspects of your game development process. Design and structure dialogue trees, scripts, variables, quests, items, game design documents, and more — all in one place, fully under your control. Once you are done, export game-ready data in plain JSON format and use it in any engine.
Features:
- Non-linear Dialogue Tree Editor: Seamlessly combine branching dialogue trees with linked scripts to craft intricate, non-linear narratives and flow-based logic.
- Scripting Editor: Write scripts for immersive dialogue, scenes, or game logic. Generate standard screenplay documents automatically and add voiceover tags tailored for VO actors.
- GDD Editor: Create, organize, and share comprehensive Game Design Documents (GDDs). Write in Markdown, embed media, link documents, and export to JSON.
- Private Data, No Cloud: Own your data and keep it secure. Use Drafft locally or with your own CouchDB setup—no cloud dependency, no compromises.
- Engine Agnostic: Export data in standard JSON format for any game engine, with customizable export formats and target languages.
- Multi-User Collaboration: Collaborate with your team in real time by syncing changes through your own CouchDB server.
- Story Variables: Track game state with variables that support default values, live simulation, conditional logic, and dynamic dialogue.
- Scenarios: Create reproducible test states by saving and loading variable configurations for QA and iterative development.
- Scenes: Chain multiple dialogues and scripts into organized sequences to build complex narrative flows.
- Simulator: Preview and test narratives with a built-in simulator that executes scripts, evaluates conditions, and validates variable changes.
- Script Logic: Build responsive dialogue using simple scripting directives like @if, @set, and variable interpolation.
- Items Editor: Create, organize, and export dynamic items with a flexible structure and clean output formats.
- Quests Editor: Define quest properties and conditions through a streamlined dual-pane interface.
- Grid Editor: Organize structured data in a user-friendly grid and export it to JSON.
- Kanban Boards: Organize tasks and ideas with a simple, intuitive Kanban interface.
- API Access: Automate tasks and integrate with other tools using Drafft's lightweight API.
- Central Repository: Store and manage all your game development assets in one centralized location.
- True Multiplatform: Runs on Linux (x86_64, ARM64, Snap, Flatpak), macOS, and Windows.
