I've been waiting for someone to implement this idea for years and here it finally is! This is one of the most useful and fun apps out there. The best thing since sliced bread :)
It could be compared to Disqus but without being limited to sites where Disqus is supported. WIth Dissenter, you can comment on whatever site or URL you want. For example, you can comment on mainstream news articles which never had comment sections or on the Amazon front page where comment sections were never even conceived of. The possibilities are endless!
This is a great idea! Sadly, it's rendered unusable by us normal people due to its alt-right userbase. Seriously, go to any Jewish website and see what Dissenter users wrote about it.
Cool idea, hopefully someone brings something similar back.
This doesn't appear to be 100% opensource. The browser and extension are in there GitHub but I can't find the code for their server. I assume the messages are stored centrally?
It's crazy. Commenting anywhere.
Dissenter is a great extension to get past any censorship or false news that might be on a web page.
I have yet to try it out, but the concept is sound. Making every website a "public square", as Gab puts it, flies directly in the face of censorship. However, now we are at the mercy of Gab itself. Gab indeed claims to be free speech, but I've heard rumours that some words will not be processed if you type them out in Dissenter. Nevertheless, we will see in the future how well they hold to that regard.
Some words are blocked to stop it from being banned from the Chrome Web Store.
I see. Has Gab given the option to download the CRX file of Dissenter from an alternative source other than the Chrome Web Store? I checked CRX4Chrome but I didn't find it. Again, this is a test to see how far Gab will go to support their idea of free speech, and I am interested in how it plays out.
