What is DevGhost?

DevGhost is a Git analytics and developer productivity platform for understanding the work delivered by software development teams. It helps founders, CTOs, engineering managers, and product owners assess contributions, review contractor output, and track changes in engineering productivity. Development effort estimation DevGhost analyzes code changes and estimates the substantive work behind them. The reference is a mid-level developer who already knows the codebase and works without AI. This creates a common scale for comparing development output beyond commit counts and lines of code. Effort is expressed in estimated reference-developer hours rather than recorded working time. Developer and team analytics Interactive charts and contributor tables show estimated effort and output relative to the reference baseline. Ghost% represents this comparison, with 100% corresponding to the reference developer. Users can select contributors, explore their contributions, and compare individual trends with the repository average. Contractor and outsourced development reviews DevGhost helps organizations working with external development teams, software agencies, and freelancers connect progress reports to changes in the codebase. Its reports provide a concrete starting point for reviewing delivered work, discussing unexpected changes, and understanding differences across contributors. Productivity over time Effort and productivity timelines make it possible to examine how development output changes across periods. Teams can use these views to explore shifts in their workflow, including the adoption of AI coding assistants and agents. The shared baseline makes historical comparisons easier to interpret. Cloud, local, and on-premises deployment DevGhost is available as a cloud service, a local extension for VS Code and Cursor, and a Windows desktop application. On-premises deployment is available for organizations that need analysis within their own infrastructure. In local mode, all code analysis and analytics run on the user's machine. Source code and analysis results stay local. This supports work with confidential repositories and projects whose code cannot be sent to external services. The local edition includes a recurring free allowance of 500 new commits per month, with additional capacity available through one-time credit packs. An interactive Ghost Café demo shows real analysis data using fictional contributor names and project details.
