CtrlKid is YouTube parental control software for the family computer, for children roughly 4 to 11 years old.
The CtrlKid for YouTube extension replaces YouTube's search box with buttons for channels and topics you approve, such as fractions, robotics or Python. Your child can search for videos within the whitelisted topics and request additional topics, which you can then approve or deny in the app. Videos outside your topics and channels are blocked, Shorts are hidden, and the recommended feed and autoplay are switched off.
The CtrlKid desktop app allows you to make a watchlist of words and phrases, such as your home address, your child's school name, "send a pic" or "meet up". When your child types one in any chat, game, search box or website, CtrlKid takes actions that you chose. It can optionally erase words in real time before they can be sent, lock the computer, sound an alarm, log it silently, and/or send an instant alert to your phone through Telegram, Discord, Slack or ntfy. These actions can be combined.
Pro adds full activity logs (websites, searches, YouTube videos, apps and games), a daily activity report, phone alerts when a new app is opened, and a dashboard you can open from your phone on home Wi-Fi.
The activity logs stay on your own computer. There is no cloud account and no subscription. The free version includes an unlimited keyword watchlist, a daily screen time limit and the YouTube extension with 5 topics.
