Good for noobs but if you want more control you'll quickly feel restricted. It definitely fills a niche though.

Comment summary: Cloudron is praised for simplifying self-hosting with features like easy setup, centralized user management, sandboxed applications, and an intuitive UI. Users appreciate its strong backup capabilities and versatility in hosting a variety of Docker-based applications. While commercial plans exist, the free version is considered useful with manual updates. Some limitations include operation only on Ubuntu and a two-app free limit, requiring a $15 fee for more apps, and the need for a domain.

Solid webapp hosting platform featuring sandboxed applications, centralized user handling and automatic updates. Commercial plans but free version still useful if you're willing to update manually.

AlternativeTo should have mentioned limitations so that people would not waste their time on testing things. CloudRon has at least two limitations.

  1. For free, you can run only two "apps". To run more than two, you have to pay the monthly fee of $15.

  2. You need a domain. Without a domain you cannot access the installed "app".

Cloudron is an amazing tool. It's made by caring people who are very invested in self-hosting their data and spreading that to everyone in a package that allows nearly anyone to quickly run and maintain a server and deploy applications (which are containerized), whether it's for a business or for a home server. It has functionality for everyone.

Great software. Allows easy administration of a dedicated server and to easily try a nice library of apps. The backup feature is very good and easy to use.

What is Cloudron?

Cloudron is a platform that makes it easy to run and maintain web apps on your server. Unlike 1-click solutions that do not assist you with any tasks post installation and require knowledge of system administration (like installing certificates, creating databases, having a backup/restore strategy), Cloudron provides a complete integrated solution for app and user management.

Installing Cloudron on your server instantly transforms it into a "smart server". There is a UI to install apps. It has a centralized place to manage the users and groups across all apps. Third party app developers can iterate as quickly as SaaS and provide support via the Cloudron App Store.

Cloudron also has a built-in email server solution which supports DKIM signing, SPF validation, spam filtering, seive rules, mail aliases and email lists.
