What is Cloister?

Cloister blocks the websites you choose, in every browser on your Mac, until the timer ends. A running session can't be cancelled: there is no Stop button, no hidden setting and no back door, and quitting the app, stopping its background process from Terminal, editing the hosts file, moving the clock forward or restarting the Mac doesn't end it.

Start a session from the menu bar with ready-made lists (social, news, video, shopping, gaming, adult, sports) or your own, for anything from 1 minute to 24 hours, or from Shortcuts and Spotlight. Weekly schedules open sessions on their own, even with the app closed, with a five-minute warning.

There is no account, no analytics and no crash reporting, and your lists stay on your Mac. It's a one-time purchase with no subscription, and a 14-day trial with nothing withheld.

Limits, up front: it blocks websites only, and app blocking is planned for version 2. Safari with iCloud Private Relay needs Cloister's network filter switched on. It needs macOS 15 or later and runs on Apple Silicon and Intel. An iPhone and iPad version is coming separately.
