What is ChordPro?

ChordPro generates professional-looking, printer-ready sheet music from a text file that contains lyric and chord information. This input file containing the music uses a simple text format for the notation of lyrics and chords which allows them to be properly interpreted by ChordPro. The format also supports user-defined note naming systems/chords/tunings, and other time-saving features such as transposition and keyboard diagrams. The resulting sheet music is output natively as a PDF with fully customizable layout, fonts, and sizes.

ChordPro is the successor of ‘Chord’ and ‘Chordii’, and is a software re-write of the latter. The program currently implements ChordPro language version 6, which includes added support for Pango-style text markup, annotations, and a more powerful way of assigning typefaces to layout items.

Several other software programs implement the ChordPro language standard and may be suitable alternatives to the standard ChordPro GUI. See the ChordPro website for more information.
