ChordLoop is a practice tool for improvising over chord progressions. You type or paste a chart and it plays back as a looping backing band — comping, bass and drums — while diagrams show what to play over each chord as the loop goes past.
It runs entirely in the browser with no account and no install, works offline once loaded, and stores everything locally. There is no server: loops are shared as links that carry the whole progression in the URL.
Free:
Chord loop playback with piano, guitar, bass and synthesised drums; comping patterns and drum beats in simple and compound meters, including 5/8, 7/8, 9/8 and 11/8 with selectable pulse groupings
62 scales — the major, harmonic major, harmonic minor, melodic minor and double harmonic modes, plus bebop, pentatonic, blues, symmetric and world scales — with each scale's characteristic note marked
Fretboard and keyboard diagrams; 35 tunings from four to eight strings, covering bass, ukulele, seven- and eight-string guitar, drop and open tunings, or any tuning typed in by hand
Guide-tone lines, walking bass, chord shapes, piano voicings and scale-run fingerings (position boxes and notes-per-string), computed per tuning
Circle of fifths with diminished-seventh and augmented-triad symmetry shapes, and a progression builder
Ear training on chord quality, scale degree and mode; a tuner; 48 preset progressions; a loop randomiser; custom scale building; chart import and backup
Paid (£9.99 one-time):
Listen back — microphone or MIDI input scores what you played against the chord going past, with a heat map of which scale notes you used and which you never reached for, and a per-chord breakdown at the end of a session
MIDI, WAV and chart image export
Practice history beyond the last seven days
The run drill's automatic tempo ramp
