What is Carto Art?

Carto Art is a specialized cartographic design tool that lets you create gallery-quality map posters of any location on Earth.

Unlike commercial alternatives like Mapiful or Grafomap, Carto Art gives you full creative control. Toggle individual map layers (streets, buildings, water, parks, topography), choose from curated artistic styles ranging from minimal line art to technical blueprints, fine-tune typography with custom sizing and letter spacing, and swap colors in real-time across the entire composition.

The standout feature is the GPU-accelerated terrain hillshading system. Using Terrain-RGB elevation data and Lambertian reflectance modeling, mountains and valleys render with photorealistic depth—and dynamically adapt to your chosen color palette.

When your design is ready, export at true print quality: up to 24×36 inches at 300 DPI (7200×10800 pixels), far beyond typical web map screenshots.
