A calendar as it's meant to be. Simple. Clutter-free. Easy to use. It puts YOU back in control. It flies in the face of all new solutions—it offers less functionality. Fewer features. But that's the point. It aims to simplify life, not complicate it further.

Expensive, minimalistic and it works
Searching for an alternative to privacy-invaders like Google, Yahoo, Outlook.com? The best offering in that respect for hosted calendars that I've found so far is Mailbox.org (supports search, Yubikey, and a range of other options). Plus it's cheap, hosted in Germany and comes with a multitude of other offerings, including encrypted email, contacts and notes.
However, if you want a minimalistic, no-nonsense calendaring app only, without all the bells and whistles and you want to have an easier time of syncing to mobile, then UK-based Calendaz might be for you. It's available on the web and for mobile and it costs $7/month (which is a bit on the steep side, it has to be said). The web version of the app gives you month view only, and rather spartan settings. But it works and it makes entering the time for your event very easy by parsing the time you write in. For example "Tiffin with Betsy 4pm" will create that event at 4pm. You don't get a whole lot more. It doesn't integrate with your contacts, it doesn't register locations, it doesn't allow attachments.
It's encouraging that Calendaz has a clear privacy policy. Yes, it logs you when you visit the site and yes, sadly it uses Google Analytics (boo, hiss!). But no, they don't make your data available to anyone else, they don't use it for marketing, or for any other reason. Nice. I'll take that.
