What is Bacula?
Bacula is a set of computer programs that permits the system administrator to manage backup, recovery, and verification of computer data across a network of computers of different kinds. Bacula can also run entirely upon a single computer and can backup to various types of media, including tape and disk.
In technical terms, it is a network Client/Server based backup program. Bacula is relatively easy to use and efficient, while offering many advanced storage management features that make it easy to find and recover lost or damaged files. Due to its modular design, Bacula is scalable from small single computer systems to systems consisting of hundreds of computers located over a large network.

Not what I was looking for. I don’t want to install mail server stuff etc., I just need a simple backup solution for GNU/Linux to backup my files and folders to a different directory, external drive or FTP server.
This backup package isn't the quickest, easiest thing to set up, but once it is running, it provides a VERY robust set of backup services that will accumulate backups for multiple machines over a network, on a schedule. It will manage incremental, differential, and full backups and can be configured and managed using Webmin. It is worth the effort of getting past the learning curve to get it working.
Sure I can admit that. But have to add, that if you have less than (say) 10 clients to backup, it's not worth the learn. To understand and correctly setup this solution needs months to master.
thank you both
