Art Overlay

Art Overlay turns a phone into a tracing tool. Upload a reference image, point the camera at your paper, canvas, wall, fabric or mug, and the image appears on top of the live camera view so you can trace it by hand.

It runs entirely in the browser. There's no app to install, no account to create, and no paywall. The reference image and the camera feed never leave the device — nothing is uploaded to a server.

Line up the reference by dragging and pinching it, by dragging its four corners onto the surface, or by tapping Detect to find a flat surface automatically. An opacity slider controls how strongly the reference shows through. For curved objects such as mugs, rollers and balls, the reference can be bent to wrap the surface instead of stretching at the edges.

People use it for murals, tattoo stencils, cake decorating, embroidery patterns, sign painting, ceramics, and for learning to draw proportions by hand.
