    1. dvd::rip is a full featured DVD Ripper GUI for Linux, written in Perl. It features an easy to use, yet powerful interface for ripping DVDs to many formats, including AVI, MKV, etc.


      The program is no longer updated. Last version, 0.98.11, released in March 2010, can be still downloaded from the official website.

      libdvdcss is a free software library for accessing and unscrambling encrypted DVDs. libdvdcss is used by VLC media player (not included in the Windows version) to view DVDs, and can be used by Handbrake to rip DVDs.

      Thoggen is a DVD ripper for Linux within the GNOME project. It is based on GStreamer and Gtk+. The current version can back up DVDs by encoding them using the Ogg Theora video codec.


      The project is no longer developed. Last version, 0.7.1, released in June 2008, can be still downloaded from the official website.
