An indispensable tool to convert between Linux packages. I use it with all Debian based distros when I need to convert .rpm to .deb & it works flawlessly. Very useful if your operating system repositories have outdated packages & you find up to date packages for other unrelated distros.

What is alien?

Alien is a program that converts that converts between linux packages. This program converts linux packages between the rpm,deb,tgz and slp packages. For example if you are using CentOS & want latest version of some software that's available as .deb file, alien can directly install it or convert .deb to .rpm for you.
