OpenShot 4.0 adds color & recording views, local AI-powered masks, and 10 new effects
OpenShot 4.0 has been released as the latest version of this free and open-source video editor. The update adds a new color view for correction and grading, with presets, color wheels, curves, lookup tables (LUTs), and live video scopes.
Alongside the color tools, a new recording view captures microphone, screen, webcam, and system audio directly into a project. Each recorded source remains separate and editable. OpenShot also adds local AI-powered masks that select and follow subjects with free downloadable models running on the user's computer, without a cloud service or subscription.
For creative work, version 4.0 introduces 10 new effects, including audio-reactive graphics, beat-synced flashes, film looks, footage cleanup, and animated timers. Reorganized menus and presets also make camera moves, animation, color looks, film styles, and audio edits easier to find.
On the editing side, the native timeline gains smoother zooming, easier keyframes, editable timecode, clearer clips, and more consistent interaction. Performance work makes blur dramatically faster and improves sharpen, timeline rendering, video scopes, color grading, and audio visualizations.
At the platform level, expanded Qt 6 support improves compatibility with newer Linux distributions and lays groundwork for Android and other future platforms.
