Apple reverses planned Hide My Email domain change; aliases will keep using icloud.com

Apple has reversed its previously announced decision to change the email domain for its iCloud+ Hide My Email feature. Going forward, Hide My Email will continue to use the standard icloud.com domain for its generated addresses. This move comes after feedback from the community, particularly from iPhone users concerned that shifting to a private.icloud.com domain might make it easier for platforms to block iCloud email aliases. Since legitimate iCloud emails use the same domain, using icloud.com for both helps prevent services from selectively blocking disposable addresses while allowing genuine users to send mail.

While Hide My Email remains on the icloud.com domain, Apple will still proceed with a domain update for Sign in with Apple. Later this year, new Sign in with Apple addresses will be issued through private.icloud.com instead of privaterelay.appleid.com. Existing Sign in with Apple addresses created before the switch will continue forwarding without interruption. Apple recommends that developers supporting Sign in with Apple update their systems to accept private.icloud.com email addresses as well as the older privaterelay.appleid.com domain.
