Hannah Montana Linux has been revived with a modernized stack, but still a lot of pink!
Hannah Montana Linux, known for its unique TV-inspired theme, has been revived after 18 years of inactivity. The newly released version 26.0, developed by Noah Cagle, transitions the distribution onto a modern Debian 13.5 base with a Linux 6.12 kernel and years of updates, bridging the gap from its original 2009 abandonment.
While the distribution now delivers a heavily themed KDE Plasma 6.3.6 desktop and SDDM display manager, its visual identity leans on a re-skinned version of Plasma’s default Breeze theme. Building on this, users can access the Calamares installer, enabling both live session and traditional installation workflows like standard Linux distributions.
Recognizing hardware diversity, there is a lighter Hannah Montana Linux Lite edition replacing KDE Plasma and SDDM with LXQt and LightDM, making it a fitting choice for less powerful or older systems. These updates maintain the project’s original intent as a whimsical homage to the Disney Channel sitcom, emphasizing nostalgia and theme rather than mainstream production utility.
Rather than being a fresh build, Hannah Montana Linux v26.0 is rather positioned as a re-skin (with a lot of pink!), modernizing the original concept for today’s Linux environment.

You know, if it becomes popular, Disney Corp. would want to get its cut. It's funny, but you have to admit name plagiarism is obvious.
finally, some good, non-depressing software news
