Zulip 12.0 adds end-to-end encrypted mobile push notifications & easier Docker deployment
Zulip version 12.0 brings a key security upgrade by introducing end-to-end encryption for push notifications traveling from the Zulip server to your mobile device. This works seamlessly when using Zulip Server 12.0 alongside updated Android or iOS apps. Building on this, deploying Zulip is now more flexible across environments: the Docker container now resolves nearly all prior issues, provides detailed how-to documentation, and includes comprehensive tests. For teams using Kubernetes, the Helm chart is updated with broader support and a new schema.
Following the deployment enhancements, the user interface has been overhauled. The redesigned recent conversations view offers a cleaner look, folder filters, and more space for discussions. Sidebars, the help center, and selection menus have also been updated, while users can now filter followed topics and instantly scroll to any date in message feeds.
In terms of messaging, uploaded images and audio files now appear directly in conversations for improved clarity. Usage-based emoji suggestions and a new organization-wide setting for image and video preview sizes further personalize messaging. Organizations now have Tenor and Klipy in addition to GIPHY for GIFs, while linkifiers gain reverse URL conversion capability. Enhanced search features make it possible to search for messages mentioning any user and suggest topics from all channels. Additional improvements target moderation, channel management, performance, user management, third-party integrations, and permissions management.
