Perplexity launches Personal Computer, a cloud-based AI agent that runs on a Mac mini
Perplexity has announced the launch of Personal Computer, an always-on local system designed to integrate with Perplexity Computer and operate continuously for users. This new offering combines the power of a persistent Mac mini with secure, local access to files, applications, and sessions, ensuring that the system is available and active around the clock.
Building on this foundation, Personal Computer acts as a digital proxy. It enables Perplexity Computer and the Comet AI assistant to interact with your machine's environment, but every sensitive action requires explicit user approval. The system is controllable from any device and is designed to be personal and secure. Each action taken on your behalf is systematically logged, and a kill switch is available to immediately halt activity when desired.
To enhance usability, users can deploy Personal Computer on a Mac desktop, seamlessly connecting local applications to Perplexity’s secure servers to allow remote management. Following the product announcement, the initial waitlist for the Personal Computer program is now open, allowing interested users to sign up for early access.

Comments
From the announcement tweet: "Announcing Personal Computer, an always on, local merge with Perplexity Computer that works for you 24/7. "
Put simply, "Personal Computer" is your PC (except it's a Mac), and "Perplexity Computer" is the cloud.
So Perplexity has raised $1.2B just to connect its cloud to another AI company cloud, and is valuated $3B.
