OpenProject 17.2 adds MCP server, reusable meeting templates, and improved PDF exports
OpenProject 17.2 has been released as the latest version of this free and open source project management software. The update introduces the MCP Server, a major new feature that enables secure integration between OpenProject and artificial intelligence systems. By implementing the Model Context Protocol, the MCP Server allows external tools, including large language models and other MCP clients, to access OpenProject's structured project data through MCP-compatible endpoints in a controlled manner.
In addition to the new MCP integration, administrators can now define reusable meeting templates, giving teams a standardized agenda layout for recurring events. The Project Overview page has also been enhanced to deliver clearer financial insights, streamlined editing, and improved accessibility.
Further supporting project transparency, OpenProject 17.2 allows administrators to enable comment fields for project attributes, so users can document their reasoning for attribute values directly within the application. PDF export capabilities have been expanded as well, resulting in more comprehensive offline and shareable project reports.
Following recent security updates, OpenProject 17.2 adds the option to require that users be logged in before opening external links. The ongoing transition to the Primer design system also continues with this release, further unifying the user interface throughout the platform.
