Fastmail's update brings multi-window support, better compose experience & inline replies
Fastmail has released a major update to its webmail service, focusing on enhanced multitasking and improved mail composition. Users can now open compose and conversation views in separate windows using Shift-click actions or keyboard shortcuts such as Shift+R to reply or Shift+A to reply all. These new pop-out windows streamline multitasking, while the undo send timer functions seamlessly across all open windows, maintaining user control over sent messages.
Building on these workflow improvements, Fastmail now lets replies appear inline within the conversation thread, allowing users to see the full context while writing. If preferred, replies can be expanded to a full-screen compose view, and the app will remember each user's choice for future messages. The compose interface itself is now visually unified across desktop and mobile platforms, providing a cleaner and more consistent writing experience.
Following these interface changes, the reading pane can be positioned below or to the right of the message list, catering to individual screen preferences and making the setup more practical for narrower monitors. The update also adds the ability to turn off email signatures on replies or forwards according to user preference, and enables searching within conversations on the desktop app, making it easier to locate information in long threads.
