Tails 7.5 brings enhanced Thunderbird security, updated Tor browser & client, and more

Tails 7.5 has been released, delivering notable privacy and security enhancements for users of this portable operating system. This update introduces new versions of core applications, including Tor Browser 15.0.7, Tor client 0.4.9.5, and Thunderbird 140.7.1, strengthening protection against surveillance and censorship.

Following these core software updates, Tails 7.5 introduces a simplified home page for the Tor Browser. This change aims to streamline access and browsing for users who rely on Tor for secure, anonymous internet activity. The release also addresses a longstanding security challenge with Thunderbird, the popular open source email client. Users can now install Thunderbird as additional software, enabling the latest version to be automatically installed from Persistent Storage during each start of Tails, provided both the Thunderbird Email Client and Additional Software features are enabled. This automation closes a gap that previously left users with potentially outdated and insecure versions of Thunderbird.

Additionally, the release expands language accessibility by including the Mexican Spanish language pack for Thunderbird, alongside the existing Spanish from Spain. This change supports a broader base of Spanish-speaking users, enhancing usability for this segment.
