Roblox launches new AI tool that lets players generate 3D game objects using text prompts

Roblox has just introduced a beta feature that lets creators generate interactive 3D objects in their games using natural language text prompts. It builds on last year’s asset generator by enabling creators and, in supported experiences, players to generate interactive items on demand. For now, the beta supports two schemas: a drivable four wheeled car and single mesh objects.

The update arrives less than a week after Google unveiled Genie,a 3D interactive world generation tool that contributed to stock declines across several major game companies, as some investors viewed it as an early sign of AI powered game creation. Roblox says it is working toward an open vocabulary schema system that could expand generation to many more object types and behaviors. The company also pointed to a longer term goal of generating any kind of 4D object and behavior by prompt, though no timeline was shared.

Roblox tested the tools in Wish Master, where players generated more than 160,000 items over six months. The game’s creator, Laksh, said players who used the feature increased their play time by an average of 64 percent.
