LibreOffice 26.2 adds Markdown import/export, better Excel compatibility, and speed boost
LibreOffice 26.2 delivers a wide range of updates focused on interoperability and usability. Markdown is now supported for both import and export, with handling via files and the clipboard, as well as template-based conversion to and from ODT or DOCX formats. Calc users benefit from Biff12 (Excel 2007 and newer) clipboard compatibility, raising the amount of data that can be pasted into Calc and supporting larger spreadsheet workflows. In addition, Calc extends functionality with support for xmlMaps.xml, aiding data mapping tasks.
Building on these features, LibreOffice 26.2 improves compatibility with documents from proprietary and open core office suites, reducing formatting inconsistencies and import issues. The suite also expands support for open standards, helping users ensure long-term access to their files. Across all applications, performance and responsiveness have been enhanced, streamlining the handling of large documents during opening, editing, and saving.
For presentation users on Windows, Impress now leverages Microsoft Media Foundation APIs for broader audio and video codec playback. Meanwhile, the Base application introduces true multi-user support, which is essential for collaborative database scenarios. The update also brings a more unified user interface, and includes hundreds of bug fixes and stability improvements contributed by the LibreOffice community.
