Hyprland 0.54 brings per-workspace layouts, major performance gains & Hyprnix integration

Hyprland 0.54 has been released as the newest version of this modern compositor for Wayland, offering updated features for dynamic tiling and plugin integration. With this release, Hyprland introduces a rewritten layout system called per-workspace layouts. This update allows users to designate unique layouts per workspace or even per monitor, making configuration much simpler and enabling setups like having specific workspaces set to dwindle, master, or scroll layouts.

Following the major layout changes, Hyprland 0.54 enforces a cleanup of legacy dispatcher commands by removing the togglesplit and swapsplit dispatchers. Users are now required to use the layoutmsg interface for layout changes. These backend improvements are paired with broader enhancements. The former hyprscrolling plugin is now integrated directly into the core of Hyprland, and users can access a new monocle layout for focused, full-window tiling.

Building on these feature updates, the release also brings major performance improvements, particularly for systems running on integrated graphics processing units. Depending on hardware, users may experience up to a fivefold improvement in rendering performance. In addition, Hyprland now offers complete Nix integration for Hyprpm and start-hyprland, streamlining deployment and configuration on Nix-based systems. Other minor enhancements and bug fixes are included as well in this release.

It stands out with features such as dynamic tiling, tabbed windows, and a custom renderer for window animations, rounded corners, and Dual-Kawase Blur on transparent windows. With a clean C++ code-base, Hyprland is extensible via plugins and extensions, serving as a robust Window Manager. It is rated 4.5 and is noted for its high customizability.
